It also takes faith not to believe

...call it atheism. someone who doesn't believe that there is someone who is above us that is all powerful and all knowing. A being, a person...call it God. Living life without it...i call it religion.

i was once an atheist. i didnt know where or why i came up to a decision that there is no God but there was a point that i just simply concluded that his existence was just a hoax. a belief that man made just to believe in something or someone. Man just created God for a purpose, whatever that is. Ironically, there is just no way i could ever think that there is no God. My parents and relatives were Catholics. I don't see that they are that devout but i can say they are just normal catholics. i went to a Catholic school, from the age of three to the end of my scholarly days. We pray everyday. Go to mass every Sunday. Rosaries where everywhere in our house. And oh yeah, those wooden and stone carved images of persons that every Catholic knows. But i still have that fear about God. I am not the type who just don't believe. I do and do things that my culture dictates how to believe in him.

Historically, every civilization that rose in this world dealt greatly with religion. they existed for the purpose of serving their god. may it be an invisible or tangible being. different civilizations have their own gods, in form or in character. They maybe pagans, idolaters or serving the true one but who could tell? who had the authority in this world that could discern that the one they are serving or believing is THE ONE. and in conclusion to this i had decided that man was the one who created god, not the other way around.

but as time goes by it was really hard for me not to believe in God. i just look at the order of this universe, how all the things you see were on its proper place, each has its own purpose. if there is no intelligent being greater than us put it all into its proper place, i believe there is no such order. look at the complexity of a man. its body, its brain, its emotion and its spirit. can we really create an exact replica of it? looking at the world itself it is really hard not to believe in God. it might have been perfect. we might have been perfect. but the imperfections we see was rooted on us.

it really takes faith not to believe when the world gives you all the evidence that there is God. when you decide not to believe, you created your own religion. it takes courage to even hold on to that faith.

but there is God. that is what i believe in right now. all the doubts and fears of his existence no longer lingers in my mind. belief in his existence was a default action etched in human beings because we are his creation. God made it plain to us to see so that we had no excuse not to believe in him.

i don't believe in the idea that "the world is too perfect therefore there has to be a creator." i never thought that the world, or life for that matter, is perfect in the first place so i never felt the need to credit it to someone or something. i think that life just moves that way - uncertain and tough. it is man's choices and actions that bring out 'happiness' and 'favorable outcomes. some people choose to believe in god to escape the unbearable ordinariness and untruthfulness of our lives. i simply just deal with it. accept that life is 'ugly' and try to make something good out of it. what we have alone, and what this life is and isn't, is good enough. i don't need to imagine that there's more than what's at hand in order to be happy. i think that's a brave choice people are too scared to take.
